I can't believe it, this is great. When I read that I was about to jump out of my seat! It's Friday night as of now and if this comes out before Monday, I'm gonna blow outta my pants! Thank you, thank you, Flayra. May a thousand women flock in your direction.

I certainly hope this open beta is successful. Because other mods which had open betas last time.....well, you know what happened.
But still, this might be a better change. It might not. I just hope this is definitely the right direction to go And it happens to be my birthday today.....whee music to my ears

Unbalance, bah, unbalance never stopped us before, thats why versions can change from 3.0g to 3.01. Its just public playtesting, once ns is all through steam it will be really easy to patch up anyways.

While I'm concerned that this will result in a lot of people lacking in sense crying foul about any remaining imbalances, overall I think it will be a good thing, not least of all cause we'll have a good simulation of the pub enviroment and there'll be a lot of people testing and scrimming to find out any major issues which have been overlooked up until now.
NS is far too complex a game to be developed quickly, so hopefully it tides people over.
Then again I hope people dont leave in droves because of the remaining issues.
Warning: Lots of the issues in 2.01 remain unresolved, but please realize that making NS: Combat and fixing bugs takes a lot of time. Some of you may think NS: Combat is bad for NS, but give it a shot, and I'm sure you'll change your mind.
So please don't make any threads ranting on how incomplete 3.0 is. It's a beta.

Restrict them from the beta forum then
I think it makes complete sense Flayra, and this is from a game development perspective not a "So-I-Can-Get-My-Hands-On-The-Latest-Version" side of things.
I reckon an RTS/FPS is not the easiest thing to balance. Minor changes and make a big difference and major changes probably take much tweakage and heartache before you get it right. I think the testing cycle of NS should be start with a private beta test and then expanded to a public beta test, much like it was done for v2.01.
The initial changes made prior to the public beta test version should be tested by the "Hardcore Dedicated" members of the community. Drastic changes require testers that are patient, willing to play through the major inbalances and sometimes the killer bugs of a new experimental version. They have to be trusted to understand everything is a work in progress and they have to be relied on to give input based on these sometimes b0rk3d versions. The general public may not be so understanding, the hardcore fans are who you have to turn to.
After the major initial problems and balance issues have been ironed out and the new features begins to feel more balanced and stable it should be released as a public beta for further tweakage. Part of the testing process must involve knowing what the balance is like when you have skilled and unskilled players, rambos and newbies, and everybody inbetween playing on a server.
To be honest I'm still having fun pubbing v2.01, yes the strategies may have gotten somewhat repetitive, but it is still fun to play. I think it is proof that the private-to-public beta testing process is a good one and I'm all for it for b3.0.
I really don't know what to say as I never got to PT, but I'm looking forward to the release. gl hf .

NS still has a unbalance thats what hurts NS alot marines win just because of they have more players on their team and if both team are even in players marines are going to loose.

Point: Nancy. Marines turtled up in subspace. Billions o' turrets, sieges out the wazoo, couple heavies, two HMGs, one or more GLs. So we pull the old "Build the hive and movement in" trick.

For the record, I officially don't think it's ready for public play. (Realizing that this is officially a beta, but is likely to become the de facto current public release.) When people start posting "what were the playtesters THINKING?!" -- you know what I was thinking.
That said, it'll be fun to have more servers/players.
i disagree, 3.0 is ready for a much borader audience. it may not be in final form but it needs to be balenced for the masses not a bunch of consties and vets who know it insidie and out.
