If some one figured out how to make a map where hitscan weapons just didn't work....
We could always code plugins that disable the sniper class. And add an experience system with levels you can attain to double your damage or become permanently invisible. And remove victory conditions for the map so the game doesn't end just as you reach level 8. And remove team associations so everyone can kill everyone. And replace the static spawn points with random spawn points so anyone can spawn anywhere.
And play Quake 3 or Unreal Tournament or HL2DM or something. If you find yourself having to alter TF2's mechanics to make your map work, then maybe you're mapping for the wrong game.
Huh? All I'm saying is that if you have to jump through ridiculous hoops to make the map work, you'll save yourself trouble by playing a game where you don't have to do any hoop jumping. Saying "let's get rid of half the classes to turn it into a rocket jumping map" makes me think "well gee, I could save you lots of time by showing you a Quake rocket jumping map." The only reason to make a TF2 map is to take advantage of something special about TF2, which is of course the 9 classes. And someone make Squall stop trolling me <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

I just wanna say in a thread I won't check again:
###### I'm good. Earlier tonight I took apart 3 seperate servers with my top 3 classes(other than Spy): Scout, Soldier, Sniper.
Scout is for Granary and Well. For some reason I just click with scout really well on those maps.
Soldier is for 2fort, dustbowl, Well, and Gravelpit. Rocket Jumping ahoy!
Sniper is for dustbowl, Gravelpit, 2fort, and occasionally Well.
I'd say my top 3 tips are:
Never underestimate Rocket Jumping. I use it against any class with explosives, and any time a lot of my team is around- for one it gets your team out of your line of sight, and for two, most explosives classes only do damage near the ground. Also does wonders to Snipers.
Never undestimate the Pistol. Its a ######ing sniper rifle. As a Scout, I generally take 2 or 3 shots with my shotty, then run backwards while pistol-sniping. Kills 90% of the time- and works brilliantly against Pyros.
As a Scout, test ALL of your jumps. I discovered on Granary that I could dance around the top of the boxes in the middle- all 4- if I just did it right. Eventually I was hopping around there like mad, shotgunning folks below me and pistol-sniping anyone that ran up one of the ramps- defended the middle against 4 enemies successfully thanks to Pistol Sniping and good dodging.
Sniper is all about 2 things: Headshots and finding a good spot. If you can get Headshots, you don't need to find a good spot. Whether its noscope or just being good at your headshots, it is a 100% crit, so all classes but Heavy die instantly to it- use that. But if you find a place that is not used very often but has a straight shot at some good corridors- you're set. Example: On Dustbowl, in the 1st Area, before the 2nd node, if you're defending, go upstairs into the building on the left when facing the entrance to node #1. Stand in the stairwell, and stare towards the other side, where there should be a pile of tires in front of one doorway(well, nearly in front of it) and a one-way grating on the other. In this spot people pause quite a bit for various reasons, making it ideal- and nearly nobody uses that corridor.
Learn your health spots. Not only do they make Pyros nearly useless, but they're just good to be able to retreat to really fast- you'd be surprised how many there are around most maps(Granary has TONS of them!).

Heh when out team doesn't have one , I usually go pyro.
1. I hate spies 2. I love setting a whole team on fire and see all hell break loose while they panic 3. medic+pyro combo can be very deadly, but also very easily destroyed by a few KA-BOOM thingies 4. Fire it up or blow it up are my 2 mottos if things go bad for me team <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" /> (pyro or demo)
Ubered pyro is win vs cp or close quartercombat vs engineer+his crap <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

F*ck Soldiers and Demomen, god damn I hate getting insta-gibbed. The worst part of the game is going against someone and not having a chance because of those lame-ass weapons. It's not so much not having a chance, but not actually having a battle. At a certain distance a mediocre soldier already has your ass on a silver platter.

Nah, they have already increased detonation time and if a demoman (I almost wrote megaman, what?) plays out all his stickys he's very vulnerable to surprise attacks while keeping an eye on his sticky nest. He also only have the grenade launcher as protection. You can ALSO shoot the stickys out of your way, sometimes even roll them near enough the demoman for him to kill himself. As you all know, no demoman = no stickys.
Though I have to admit when half the team is demomen and the CP is Dustbowl 3, it gets quite annoying.

The better solution to Demomen is more demomen or soldiers.
My crowning glory of playing Engie was protecting my SG from a demoman by shooting stickies away from my SG as fast as he could shoot them. However if a CP is loaded up with stickies (or the start of round entrance or what ever) just 1 sticky or rocket will clear most of them.
OR a Hvy is also a good counter (the absolute number of bullets he spits our lets him move an entire path of Stickies in front of him)

1/2 of liku's post is 100% accurate.
Getting a random crit rocket to the face sucks. I mean, it is part of the game and it is balanced, but it just is not FUN. Hell, a crit rocket can end a good scout even if they dodge the rocket they still have to deal with crit blast, and that sucks also.
Honestly, I don't see a way of dealing with this (aside from removing crits, and that is just dumb).
MY current gripe is this: Dustbowl.
The other day I joined a server and was shortly followed by Tycho (who OMGWTFPWNED my face repeatedly). We played through a round, and the map changed to...
Dustbowl.
tycho complains at me so I tell him I will find a different server. One quick hop on and I am on.
<lolfighter> Problem with TF2 is that there ARE only repeating maps. <lolfighter> I mean, I LIKE change. <lolfighter> But Valve went "hey, a lot of people only play a single map or two. We don't even need to make any large number of maps. We'll just say we're pandering to those!" <lolfighter> The result? Those of us who avoid servers with "<mapname> 24/7!" in the name like the plague get SHAFTED.
