locallyunscene: Are you aware I spell my alias Psyke? I'm just asking because I wasn't sure if you were writing it "Psyche" intentionally or because you were just writing it from memory.

If you don't think they package the two together so more people will view the ads then I have a bridge to sell you. I'm not saying it's an inviable business strategy as Psyche seems to be, but call a spade a spade(or a marketing department a marketing department).

I find it ironic that you use the phrase "call a spade a spade", then spell Psyke's username wrong twice. Unless it was intentional. Either way, I found it amusing. But back to the subject at hand.
I don't mind the adverts. I find them fairly useful (I've bought a few games from following the ads, for example), but if I'm not in the mood for them, I just hammer the "next" button until I get to the news (or the end of the ads).
But I can see how it'd be annoying to some, and having the news and the adverts popup in seperate windows seems like a good idea to me, although I'll bet quite a few people would get annoyed at having two window popups. Maybe valve just want the steam interface as streamlined as it can be.
