Awesome game, and I just want to say, shoving zombies away with the butt of your gun is REALLY satisfying. Actually there is a whole load of satisfying in this game, but that is one of the simplest.

I want to be able to finish Death Toll without the (dedicated) server crashing halfway through, just once.
This is why choosing my own dedicated server would at least give me a chance to filter out unreliable servers.

Also: Dunno if this has been mentioned but SentrySteve was complaining about not being able to put just his people on the Infected side and do a campaign with that setup.
You can do this in a roundabout way: - Begin a Friends-Only Lobby set to Versus - Invite your friends first and tell them to set their character to Infected (or the survivor characters, doesn't matter which, just all the same) - Either invite more friends, or open it up to the public to fill the opposite team
I just played through No Mercy and Body Harvest with me and a few randoms against my brother and his mates. For some goddamn STUPID reason the person providing the first server for No Mercy had set the server to ALLTALK for both voice and text, making the versus experience rely mostly on failed attempts at telepathy between teammates (and another reason why I would like to be able to choose my own Dedicated Server from the lobby).
Our team kept getting a Tank right at the beginning of almost every level of the campaign. In Versus is the Tank given as a reward or a pick-me-up for the Infected team?
Also at one point in the finale of Body Harvest I was sat in the spawn queue for almost 2 minutes on the Infected side. Then I spawned as a Hunter, then seconds later was told I'd be the Tank, so moved somewhere good for the Tank, then got respawned somewhere slightly different and got totally raped by the survivors who were camping up on the balcony, the rest of my team dead/respawning because they had only had 3 people to play with for the last 2 minutes, and were able to do barely any damage whatsoever.
The game still has some annoying glitches, and manual server selection from the lobby would be a very welcome addition.

It works to get players into the server, but after 1 round most usually quit and you end up with an empty server -> preset team vs public random team is no fun for the public team.

i joined one versus server where im pretty sure the difficulty was set to something higher than normal, which is the standard for versus. It was impossibly difficult, no one could get even halfway through any level because the infected were a very serious threat and then the infected did 3 times as much damage. sucked quite a bit.
also: i got untouchables, the achievement for not taking any damage after calling the rescue veh, the other day through an achievement bug. i joined a versus game just after the radio was called, then got it when i left on the tank, even though everyone took damage and one guy was even killed after i joined. a little while later same thing happened for someone else that joined my game after the vehicle was called.
You can vote to change the difficulty, even in versus. Problem is this vote isn't put to both teams, so the other team will never know (except for the whole 15 damage per infected punch thing).

I thought you couldn't join after the vehicle has been called. Whenever I try and join a friends game at that point, it won't let me. The thing says "game in finale"... I guess you're talking about using the server browser, though.
Yeah versus on any difficulty over normal is extremely hard. Advanced is painful, expert is insane.
Just as a matter of interest, has anyone else noticed that the last-but-one map in Blood Harvest is easy in versus? The level that ends with you running down the bridge to get into the train cart (the safe room). Unless you're amazingly unlucky to get a tank spawning right there on the bridge, it seems to be the easiest level in versus. Don't know why. Was playing the other day with two good teams. Through the whole game, each team took a hammering on each level, no more than one survivor made it to the saferoom each time (and sometimes no one made it), but on that level all four survivors made it to the saferoom in green health for both teams. Which was kind of odd.
I think that final run down the bridge is supposed to be more climatic than it is. Since the only infected that can do anything to a full team in a small space (seriously, the bridge is basically a long corridor) is the tank, and that the survivors can outrun the tank when they're green, it just becomes a pretty boring jog to the door frankly.

I feel like the game grinch these days, but here's another one I can't get into that makes me feel gypped. It feels like a mod - feels like no more of a game than counterstrike, and less of a game than TF2, which was packaged with Portal and episode 2 for the same price as L4D. campaign mode? ok, cute, I can play through the whole thing in like 4 hours. vs. mode? identical to campaign mode with the additional option of waiting in line for 30 seconds for every 5 second life in which you flail yourself headlong into a survivor hoping to do a point of damage.
really, as far as zombie games go, they definitely got the feel down - but it's just no fun. not to me, anyway. being a survivor is too easy on normal and probably too hard on hard, and vice versa for the undead. am I missing something here?

i agree that on pretty much all the difficulties the game is either too hard or too easy, but in versus the gameplay is really even. sure there is a respawn wait, but this game isn't designed to be a fast paced twitch shooter, nor a slow paced tactical shooter. instead its designed to be a team based action thriller game, where the thrill comes from what is going on throughout the entire match, not just what you are doing. this is why the team aspect of the game is so huge, to make what other players are doing interesting and valid to the current player. some people don't like that kind of game, and that's fair.

It hasn't been designed so that there is a 50/50 chance of either team winning in each round - the idea is just that the infected side do as much damage as they can, hopefully killing someone, thus decreasing the other team's points. And likewise on the player side, they try to make it as far as they can.
