Corner camping was a big part of the reason why indoor fights devolved into spamfests, because you could never approach any corner unless you had thoroughly spammed it first. And even then you risked just finding a dented MAX ready to greet you with its arm(s) of doom. The entire indoor fighting part was terribly trite and stale, and it was mainly because of third person view. It's galling that the developers refused to just ADMIT that it was a ###### mistake and remove it.

Oooohhh landscape.

That is some reasonably sexy landscape. I wonder how much it isn't going to look like that in the game.

What do we think of the "used" look of the vehicles. Having paint chips and what not. Aren't these things supposed to be manufactured basically on the spot? Have the sides grown so decadent that they now manufacture new products to look old and fight in a war without much of a meaning?

I guess we do have pre-ripped jeans... Hm.

Maybe they're fighting so hard that the nanites that construct the machines are also at war.

Everybody except TR just uses really cheap paint that dries and flakes off immediately on contact with air.

I hope they leave persistent decals on vehicles - was always fun to see your ride completely shot-up at the end of a battle :)
• lolfighterlolfighter Snark, Dire Join Date: 2003-04-20 Member: 15693Members
It was pretty cool to be able to gauge at a glance whether you had seen serious combat or not. It was also pretty fun when one side of your tank was completely shot up and the other was pristine - "this side towards enemy" indeed.

More screenies! Good look on NC and TR armours, and what appears to be a shielded base courtyard entrance.
EDIT: in fact, as PSU pointed out, there seems to be a small man standing near the entrance... which means bases are huge now
• lolfighterlolfighter Snark, Dire Join Date: 2003-04-20 Member: 15693Members
I dunno about the TR armour. Needs a little more red and a lot more black. They're the red and black empire, not the brown-and-grey-with-red-details empire! The one I like best right now is the fishheads, at least they look like they belong in a future shooty game.

Good on the base size, hope that's reliable. PS2 is going to have less bases than PS1, but if that means they're also twice as big, I call that an improvement. Planetside is all about the large scale.

If cloaking is still in the game, I hope they stick to PS1's paradigms: Useless in a straight firefight. You were vulnerable as hell and your weapons, while certainly capable of killing anything up to and including a rexo if you had surprise on your side (preferably a distraction too, like your victim being busy shooting someone else), but you simply couldn't mix it up in a normal fight. I think too many games with cloaking in them allow you to have your cake and eat it too, giving cloakers a fighting chance if they're discovered before they strike. I think that's a big part of the reason why stealth is often so overplayed.

This looks silly, really. They could have gone with a darker purple to "man it up" a bit. I'll be expecting a full throttle fan response explaining the background of the color choice in minute detail. Something like when GW2 fans pointed out that the new plant people had belly buttons and the devs just went and "this is why and it totally makes sense for the general person as well" on their collective faces.

That looks horrible. Horrible. Their art guys need to be dragged out back and drowned for their own sakes.

yah, TR needs to be much bolder. Hell, the costume choices were why I initially played TR (I stuck with them b/c I love their MAXes). I like the armor design, I just wish it was, you know, black, and red (and the red bits were a bit more prominent).

Of the new ones, I actually thing that NC looks really damn good. Their colour scheme is displayed well, and the boxy armor looks nice (and fits with how they should look). That said, I now can't help but think of them as ToyCo (bonus geek points for any one that gets it :P). Was there anything said about having personalized logos/decals/whatever? Nicking the ToyCo happy cat and slapping it on TNC stuff would be priceless.

VS? Well, VS are supposed to look silly, right? I mean, that's why they have always worn light purple and had funny looking armor and stuff, right? So I'm fairly happy with how they look.

By silly you mean awesome right?

Well, our MAX concept art is anyway :(

The VS armour needs to be bright pink, have "I <3 LASHER SPAM" written across the chest and "LAG LOVER" on the helmet, and anyone using a VS AA max should have "CHEAP" written on every part of the MAX and it should make the sound of a guy yelling "nerf" whenever it fires.

>:(

The VS ARE a bit silly. They're essentially Scientology on overdrive - a crazy cult that worships future space aliens and has highly dubious policies towards its own members, not to mention outsiders. Except the VS have a lot more guns.

The VS are supposed to be the most futuresque-looking. They're the super future space vision soldierfaces. I think their design is spot-on, and the most faithful to the first game. It's a bit evocative of alien soldiers in camp-scifi, and that's exactly what they're supposed to look like.

I don't care what the lore says they should look like. That design is rotten awful.

It's awful because it's silly, which is what the VS ARE. Ergo, it's wonderful, not awful!

I've just begun researching this so called 'sequel'. I'll have to read through this thread in detail...

This game looks promising.

I imagine like NS1 the peeps who played the first PS are in their mid to late 20's now and like me (30 next year) have far less time on their hands...but...have had a look at http://www.planetside2.com/news.html and I'm well up for it!

They started putting up back stories from Auraxis this week to get people in the mood and lay the foundations, as its not a sequel they say but a "re-envisioning" of PS, (hopefully without the BFRs). The PS2 Official Trailer needs to be bigger but certainly wets the appetite.

I know! I think we all know this supposed 'sequel' is actually a prequel to a the game they're going to release in 2018.

Fool me once cant fool me again fool.

I like it because I won't be playing VS, and bright purple targets are easier to hit.

Misc. stuff, shows a sideview of the mosquito, looking very insect-like.

QUOTE

On the vehicles side, the Terran Republic has two unique empire vehicles, the Mosquito fighter jet and the Prowler battle tank.
