Hmm im following every topic in mapping forum. I was mappping in quake 1 and duke Nukem 3D now its time to map in HL. I am now learning from every source I can find like mapping.pl or snarkpit.com. For the past 2 weeks or more I have been working on my own map Co_bluebay. I'm now developing a whole new pack of textures for it, some of which are based on default textures (i hope its not a crime) and some made entirely from scratch. So far, I have done the ready-room but it's too a work in progress <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> i tried many approaches like transparent textures. Thats what i have done by now. I am going to make a new topic as soon as i make some more progress. I have managed to draw on paper the whole layout, having discussed with several elite players on the overall game play (soon will post). I couldn't resist to show you some of my artwork. The general plot of the game is that the aliens invade human/marine territories. In case of my maps the idea is the opposite, the time has come for marines to take back the initiative and attack on the alien ships and nests. I made some rooms look like evolution chambers, etc. I have also prepared a whole set of textures for it.

I especially like those two, but thay are not on the map any more because of wpolly being too high with this under floor (1200-1400 when looking from start of first room to end of second). Looks nice, very original and unique. Lighting needs tweaking a bit, different colours, brightnesses and contrasts would be nice. Is that text from the LOTR? ... If so, neat texture customisation.
i agree rendy those are good but i dont know seems almost to clean but it relly depends on the part of the map now if that was alien hive area you got a problem you know what i mean
as for mouse hot damn all looks good but the hive room im assumeing looks strange cnat say anything till later in development

I decided to try my hand at mapping. This is my first time mapping anything, so it doesn't look that great. The map is co_shipyard, which I started about a month ago. (I tried to correct the Gamma as told to in the Mapping FAQ, but it didn't work right in Gimp 2.0. These screenshots are uncorrected. If anyone could PM me telling me how to fix the gamma in Gimp 2.0, I'd greatly appreciate it.)
