After coil's attack, I became a level 5 and made a one man run (I was lost at the time of the charge). I found the spawn area mostly clear so I climbed a ladder and found the leftovers of the marines. I took them all out and then made a dash for the CC (ignoring the three turrets firing at me). I took it out just as I died. Then, "Team Two wins!" came up. I was so proud.

I think the definitive answer you need to that question is that...
If there are 5-10 level 5s charging down the hall towards your marine base, you have already lost the match a LONG time ago. If your turrets at the base don't save you, no amount of friendly fire damage will. The trick is not letting the aliens get enough hives to evolve into a level 5. <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->
Keep up the stories they are greeeaat. <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->
wait wait wait, I know this... the level 5 kinda reminds me of a garg Is a level 5 harder to kill than a gargantua? By the amount of time it would take, or difuculty seeming as one could put a threat to your life.

Well, the gargantua was immune to bullet-fire. You'll recall the way you most often killed them was luring them into a trigger_hurt.
Anyway, the level5 isn't *that* hard... he *is* vulnerable to bullets, just has a buttload of health. As for ladders... yeah, he can climb them, and I hope it stays that way. Sometimes Flayra sacrifices "realism" for playability, but the end result is ALWAYS in the best interest of the mod. This is one such case.
Perhaps you should share that little "Gargantua immune to bullet fire" tidbit with our buddies over at Sven Co-Op. <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->
I promise you it's not... there's just so much health you have to take off, your BEST bet was to lure him into a trigger_hurt. Sure, I had to spawn a lot of ammon (impulse 101) was my friend, but I took every one of the suckers out. <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->
You know, the "tank effect" won't last forever and the level 5 will prolly not be omnipowerful forever. I'm sure a squad of soldiers armed with various MGs and shotguns could bring a level5 down with continuous concentrated fire. Maybe the level 5 should be immune to bulletfire in certain locations (just an idea) like the tusks and heavily armoured looking sides of the head, while being vulnerable in the flanks and the back. That might make being a level 5 or killing one a little more tricky
Plus I don't understand all this stuff about not liking the fact that level 5s can climb ladders. It's large, muscular and has very sharp claws. Maybe it should be allowed to climb walls, slowly
Having the lvl 5 climbing ladders is a must! I always get annoyed in avp2 when i get stuck with the exosuit because it cant climb ladders. This would be necesary to avoid frustration... unless the mappers design their maps so that the lvl 5:s can get everywhere without using ladders... but that might be a little late now.
Those stories scared me #### less just by reading them! I think my pulse went up alot and I feel very energenic all of a sudden, I think it's adrenaline

The great thing about NS is that both sides are unbelievably immersive and often very tense. I've definitely scared my share of marines, hiding on the ceiling and dropping out of nowhere onto one of their heads. At the same time, I've been scared *by* marines - I'm running across the map listening to warnings of a hive under attack, and I run into a room - I have exactly enough time to think "holy crap, marines!" before one of them blows me to gibs with a well-aimed shotgun blast.
It's usually narby... I swear that boy uses an aimbot. He's *deadly* with a shotty.
big fat cats, NS looks, sounds, and will be friggin' awesome <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->
This happened during the RC1 weekend, and it was on Hera.
Im not sure <i>how</i> it happened, but somehow the teams ended up being 4 or 5 marines VS me and another player (I can remember his name right now). Well, no one on the marines wanted to change. They kept saying 'oh, dont worry, more are coming ...'. Hah.
About 2 or 3 minutes into the game, after me and my team mate went builders and started building Resource Towers, we get the message 'your hive is under attack'. So, I basically let out a long sigh and waited. I was a builder, on the other side of the level and I only had like ... 10 resources. Well, our Hive goes down and my team mate dies ... there I am, one builder VS 4 or 5 marines.
A little bit of time passes and since me and the other builder built so many RT's, I had tons of resources. I went to another Hive location (farthest from the original) and build another Hive. I evolved into a lvl1, then I waited ... and waited ... and waited ...
To say the least, I was getting quite bored. So, I just say to the other team 'I'm at the Oval Hive, come get some'.
The other marines laugh at me and say 'ok' and like ... 3 minutes pass by without seeing anyone. I say 'forget this' to my self and 'here, I'll save you guys the trouble' then I started my attack. While I was searching for Marines, our new Hive came back online and my teammate spawned. Then I was greeted with 'Your hive is under attack' again, so I rush my way back turns out they built a phase gate and had pretty much the intire team there, so I cleared out the hive room with my '1337 lvl1 skillz'.
The Marines were pretty mad at me saying 'Why wont you die? Your making this more difficult then it has to be'. They then threatened to build Turrets on me, I just replied with 'Go ahead, we've already lost'. I then quickly evolved back into a builder then built 2 turrets on top of the phase gate. Pretty sneaky little tactic, because every time someone tried to use it, they'd get stuck in the turrets and die ...
^_^
It was a little exploitative .. but, I figured we were screwed from the beginning anyway, it wont really matter.
Anyway, I finally get around to one of my other Hive locations and find out it has about 5 turrets in there and <b>another</b> phase gate. I then began my assualt while they kept reinforcing troops. Eventually, I managed to take out the turrets, build a few webs to keep them at bay. I then built 2 more turrets on top of the phase gate, effectivly gutting off their attack to my hives. I then built that hive.
A few minutes pass and we end up getting a few more players. However, we were still outnumbered, although the teams were 'even'. It was like ... 5 marines to 4 aliens or something ...
Anyway, somehow we managed to take out the marine base and win the game. It just goes to show you, no matter how down and out it seems, you <i>can</i> still pull it off ...

It is funny how alot of people worry about the marines being to easily beaten by the aliens, sometimes if the atmosphere is done right I like the outnumbered scared feeling of being a human in a game with bigger bader enimies than you.... <!--emo&:tiny:--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tiny.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':tiny:'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:asrifle:--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/asrifle.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':asrifle:'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:tiny:--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tiny.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':tiny:'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:tiny:--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tiny.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':tiny:'><!--endemo-->
scenario a) Playing as marines your walking around <b>real</b> slow with 2 buddies. All of the sudden an bob rounds the corner and you start to shoot and backpedal screaming <b>"die! die! die"</b> hoping that you can pump enough lead into him until he stops moving. Maybe you will kill him. Maybe he will chomp 1 or 2 of you guys.
scenario b) playing as an bob you begin to run around, looking for marines to kill. You round the corner and <b>BAM!</b>. A fireteam of marines made you a greasy spot on the wall with their 3 LMGs.
Both scenarios, for both sides, are "Oh, <b>####!</b>" instances, and both will be extremely fun. The question is, will you be the scarer or the scare-e?
There is a varition to it Freestyler. I was a Level 4 heading back to a hive to heal. I said, "I'm heading back to heal," so my teammates wouldn't think I there to help them if they attacked. Then just as a turned into a hallway, I looked down the barrel of a shotgun. I barely knew what hit me.

Plus, they're not indestructible, are they? Just checking.

<b>Edit:</b>
Ooo! My first post that actually says something useful! YAY!
i know a way to kill a level 5.
use this handy How-to-kill-a-level-5-in-15-steps-guide
1. Get a grenade,
2. Get some oil (preferably olive oil),
3. Drop the grenade in the oil,
4. Disguise yourself as a vendingmachine,
5. Stand in a corridor,
6. Wait till a level 5 comes rampaging down the corridor,
7. Run after him,
8. Pull the pin out of the grenade,
9. Roll your sleeve up,
10. Thrust out your arm (with the grenade in your hand),
11. Stick it in the creaturs rectum,
12. Run away,
13. Hide,
14. Put your fingers in your ears,
15. And clean up after the level 5 is all over the room.
OR,
u can use the handy how-to-kill-a-level-5-in-6-steps-guide ;
1. take an rpg
2. get a rocket
3. find a level 5
4. aim
5. fire
6. clean up after you are done
It's usually narby... I swear that boy uses an aimbot. He's *deadly* with a shotty.
