And I know that I am sometimes far from beeing a nice guy on these forums.
    On the other side it is not only 'using another editor'. For me it would be learning the other editor and feel like an idiot (I really do when I use Hammer) and it would be hard for me, beeing in the minority using QuArK to say: Ok it is incompatible I use Hammer now, because it sounds like Hammer is the better editor when infact Hammer is just as incompatible. If I were about to work on such a popular project that is a lot of fun I'm sure I wouldn't switch to Hammer, because I am familiar with QuArK and I like almost everything about it, maybe even it's flaws. And QuArK users still make a certain percentage of the forum users. Radiant users must find something very special about this editor. Few people use it, but those who did say that they liked it. For Half-Life they switched to Hammer or QuArK, but then Half-Life support was added and - Edgecrusher - noone could assume that the texture coordinates exported by Hammer and Radiant are so different that they don't work together. For me Radiant does not sound like trouble. It sounds like 'cool, another editor to try'.
    But it is late here, I just might be writing that unintelligent stuff you always say when it's late.
    I didn't even want to write that much, I just wanted to say that everyone has his/her reasons. I know that because in the past there were a few occassions where people did not understand my reasons and got really rude about me. So go talk on MSN or AIM or ICQ or whatever before the whole world thinks that WolfWings is a stubborn egoist and Lazer needs a moral lecture.
    *playssongaboutnext-dear* <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
    The problems:
    1. I'm trying to explain why it's late. I can't change why.
    2. The problem is that all we need hammer for now are simple little tweaks and whatnot. Seeing as how radiant is compatable with hammer, but hammer doesn't work with radiant, we have to use hammer. Can I change that? No.
    3. I was told I had been sent the map file with the bits and pieces in it. I still have yet to receive it. Unless I'm wrong and he meant the previous map file he sent me, but that one had errors if I remember correctly.

    But WolfWings has been a HUGE help and there would be even more of a delay finishing this project if it wasn't for him joining up. I'm just a little confused on what's going on right now.

    Everyone needs to calm down. I mean where did this "dirty laundry" talk come in? Nancy is going to get finished, WolfWings, Myself, Lazer, OneEyed, so many people have contributed in so many ways, it's unbelieveable.

    Furthermore, are you forgetting why we kept this thread alive everyone? So that you know what's going on, so that everything is out in the open. We could have talked on AIM but then someone would bump this thread every month or so and say, "What's up with Nancy?" Instead we now have you guys all supporting the team and that's fantastic.

    Look, this is the first major set-back we've had, and on a project this large and outrageous I'd say that's damn good. As I said in my previous post, you'll get your Nancy. That's a promise. Just tough it out while we sort things out and back into order again. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    It came in when you guys stopped saying "We have a setback" and started saying "It's WolfWing's fault"...

    These updates rock, I really do like reading up on the progress every now and again. My point was never to stop this thread, it was that you should talk as a team, and appear unified. When we (the outsiders) start seeing the cracks, we start getting worried....

    EDIT: I forgot to add, yes this project does seem to have gone extremely well so far, and you should be very proud that such an ambitious project (multiple mappers all working on the one map) carried on so smoothly. However even if this is your first major setback, you should still apply some major PR smoothing techniques to it. Even if you tell us that WW uses an editor that is incompatible with everyone elses, make sure that it's still clear that you all equally share the blame and that you are indeed searching for solutions instead of mere finger pointing....

    Absolutely, I have never placed the blame on WWs or anyone else and I don't think Lazer meant to either, it just came off the wrong way.

    I played Nancy twice in 2.0 when LB put it on the Lunixmonster server.

    It got me hooked. No onos was a great bonus at the time, and I absolutely loved the vent system - it felt so much like the vent crawling I love in other games.

    I know I'm still a nub compared to you 1.0 guys, but I'm anxiously awaiting the new Nancy as much as the rest of you. I'm ecstatic to see a classic map being worked on so hard by a dedicated community. You all deserve serious respect and gratitude.

    Okay... I'm JUST getting home later this evening. I KNOW I sent you a .zip file with four .map files inside it, which compose the vent system and location overlays, before I left for the wedding last week.

    As for everyone else... we've specifically been posting all the updates, good or bad, to try to explain what's going on. Apparently some bad luck and akward timing, along with bad choices on my part (namely problems with Radiant and Hammer interoperating, Hammer can load Radiant files, but not the other way around currently) are delaying things.

    I accidentally took a break from the Mapping Forum after sending the last package of Nancy files to Lazer, when I made a typo on the e-mail address and a misconfiguration of our spam filters made the 'bounce' get swallowed.

    I wish I could keep helping improve Nancy, but at this point we've already been delayed far too much, and I can't in good faith cause any further delays. I will be using my copy of Nancy to try to 'fix' Radiant though, so in the future it will interoperate with Hammer more properly.

    Sadly, I never had a chance to properly build clipping for Nancy, so it will still be very difficult to maneuver around in as a Skulk or most Alien classes, except for the vents. I, quite literally, haven't booted up Radiant for more than 30 minutes in the last 2 weeks, due to Real Life stonewalling me for free time. =-.-=

    In any case... this evening when I get home, I will upload the vent fragments, and just to make damn sure they don't vanish, they'll simply be posted as an attachment here, so there's no chance of it being misdirected or vanishing this time. :-)

    For something as minor as skulk clipping, you can't use Hammer?

    Of course, I don't want to sound bad in my last comment. I just wanted to let you know ahead of time that I'm not criticising, I am suggesting.

    I'm glad that we're back to work again. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> Can't wait till nancy!

    WolfWings does his thing. We all have stuff like that, I have a friend (from Atlanta of course; Coca-Cola Capital) Who refuses to drink Pepsi E-V-E-R and that includes Pepsi products, Mountain Dew etc. It's a bit of that combined with having to learn a new editor that make this a problem. It's like me trying to use Radiant for skulk-clipping, it would take me far too long to be worthwhile. And certainly no one thinks any less of WWs because of his choice of editor. ^_^ Wolf, you're the bestest! Nice thought, thanks for supporting the team, we're almost done anyway so it doesn't really matter too much.

    Chuckster, it'd be as if I came up to you and said 'here, here's a copy of Maya 5. Do XYZ in it.' Sure, you could read the manuals. But it's a PITA for anyone used to a different modelling suite to even learn how to navigate, much less create or tweak a model. It'd take you weeks, frustrate the hell out of you, and probably look pretty ****py in the end, anyway.

    For some odd reason the color red no longer shows up on my monitor. Red values = black. Kinda getting annoying and making work in hammer very difficult. I should have a new monitor tonight to work with.

    Also, a minor note, Lazer. I just recently learned that Clip brushes are skulk-climbable in 2.1 now, so all the fancy clip-brush work I had before as func_walls and such can be thrown out, apparently. Normal clip-texturing is okay to use now.

    Gah... after all that work, too. =^.^= When things are almost done, want me to build a 2.1-friendly set of clip-brushing, or should I just avoid this thread until Nancy is released again at this point? :-)
  • NerdIIINerdIII Join Date: 2003-04-05 Member: 15230Members
    Yes, one of the developers said that just by the way when I talked with him about the wall climbing stuff. He has nothing to do with mapping so he was surely a bit surprised to hear that this even effects more than just that skulks can now climb over railings. For example the skulk clipping magic of some mappers on this forum. Omg, sorry WolfWings that piece of info must have come really early.

    Nah, my dad has a computer company and he has a great flow of computer parts he can lend me when I need them. My monitor was one of those 21 inch ones with the toucans in the corner. Forgot the name. Oh well, I'm back on track now. Only one problem... The vent system is a bunch of blocks? That could take an extremely long time to fix... don't you have a hollow version lying around that you could send me WolfWings? Oh, and the clip stuff don't worry about. Those changes can be made later. I just wanna get the actual map finished, then the minor technical things can be worked out later.

    BTW, can you please just have hammer on stand by incase I need a few quick things when compiling? You don't have to do any real mapping with it, just slight tweaks in some places and if possible, the compile, since you seem to know how to do that the best. I just don't like feeling so alone at these last stages of development :[
