the slower pace at which commanders could play. now it's like, you have to play it REALLY tight and FAST, and everything has to move like a well oiled machine. makes it REALLY hard for mediocre to average comms (like myself ) to get a win most of the time.

Oh yes and the one gorge builder was ace, the entire team needed to protect him. If there was a two hive lock-down, you would need 4-6 skulks to rush a hive point at once, the definition of team-work. Oh how I miss it!
Three hives to get an Onos. No chance of someone hoarding res and wasting it all becoming a onos with no abilities when they've been a second rate skulk, and thus wasting hard-earned team res.
Oh, and the three-to-one res ratio that gorges had
The thing i miss the most is the gorge rushes, you cant do them quite like you used to in 1.04. I remember being the only gorge and whoring res in the beggining then just spamming oc's and dcs outside their base while healspraying.. it was honestly my favorite thing in the game.
Bhopping as marine was a lot of fun and made the movement less redundant, but hey you can still semi-bhop so its not so bad.
old hmgs were disgustingly fun.

Oh yes, i like these old things more: - old lerk - old fade - 2hive webs - large OC and turrets (both with greater effectivity than now) - old onos supertank - old hive sight (marines in sight were visible on hivesight for others) - old mines (dual mode ground + laser, dont udnerstand why taken out.. )
I dislike: - abusing gorges (getting gorges to gain more res, ruining game with your gorge by building useless crap) - old commander's interface (it really sucked) - old minimaps (sucked too) - lack of level map
I miss the dependancy on hives, and their "must have" locations. Now it seems the only reason the comm wants hive locations is because there are res nodes in them.
Now it's a was for res nodes, instead of the battle for the hives. I miss those old battles; Right off the bat both teams take an empty hive, aliens try to take the third; marines loose the location, but circle around and take out on of the alien's existing hives, continue untill one team has all the hives. Although I agree the two-hive lockdown was annoying, it's not that much different then the marines grabbing and electrifying most of the res nodes at the start now.
Jetpacks(at least when I got to use them, when on the other team it was just annoying). Onos paralyze and overpowered charge&primalscream, paralyze for onos need to be able to counter jetpacks (on 'fun' maps, you would just zap any of the airborne doods and they would fall to their DEATH LOLOLOL ) Lone gorge was actually pretty fun. Oh and weren't annoying, they required m2d skills. I think it means only Flayra can see the people with 'Flayra Visibility'. Few other guys at the top have it too.
There really isnt much to feedback on... 1) 1 gorge = (forced) teamwork / comm equivalent 2) Important hives = large battles for them / more forced teamwork 3) jetpack too strong 4) Although causes performance problems, blabbers and laser mines owned. hard. 5) misc abilities that were fun in their quirky way that is now 'fixed'
Right now I'm just hopeing to get solid feedback from what people liked from the old versions, then this might be used to make NS a better game in future builds.
Excellent faders now have such an easy time. It only takes 3 minutes to gather your 50 res and the game is usually over, unless there is a marine stack...which often happens now. Oh the great memories. (1)Unlimited lerk flight speed rocked. (1)Old acid rocket. (the one that actually killed LA marines in 2 hits) (3)Fade bile bomb. It pwned anything that walked by. The fade's counter to HA. Took actual skill to use. (4)Old onos. When it walked in to marine start, it usually meant "GAME OVER MAN, GAME OVER! (5)Old blink altho buggy was awesome. (6)Xenocide could actually do damage to someone 10 feet away or behind a building. (7)Old welder that was able to do good damage. (8)One gorge equivalent of the comm. (people actually listened to my strats.) (9)Killing a gorge meant something. (10)Onos paralize gave it defense against JP. (11)No-name hive. Best hive name evar. (12)Marines scared to leave base at start in fear of first-minute skulk rush which now no longer exists. (13)Old JP. (14)Pistol rof. (15)Slower-paced longer games.
I miss the - Welder doing good damage - 120 damage Leap - old blink - bile bomb on fades - long games that are fun - team work and the old welder rushes with HAs, which really worked against fades let say 4 fades 7HAs welding eachother and it = 1 fade left who ran while it can (also aliens with 2 hives and below mean that welding them to death was easy) yea but thinking about welder rushes with HAs now in 3.0 is just funny everyone who never saw welder rushes with HAs (which i think the command i know likes to do) in 1.04. Also the old good old server mods at my favorite server g4bs2 server that had like 10 mods like night vison, sc that cloak only buildings , rts that had limited res (3000) res per rt (but that wasnt really a noticable mod to ns except u can see 1 res + and - 1 res in red in the rt space, old fun old admins abusing their powers (really fun) like setting a nuke to explode in 20 sec after you can tell that the team is going to lose
Hive importance, more useful third hive abilities. Seemed more fear inspiring.
Skulk: While the fps based damage of the old leap was overpowered, it was nice being able to use leap as a serious attack rather than an as a way to try and embarass someone. Also, xenocide was much of fun when it had the potential to be devasting to the marine forces.
Lerk: The old weapons order on the lerk was fun to use, and the lerk could fight effectively in close and long-range combat.
Fade: The old blink was amazingly fun, even if it was somewhat buggy. Also, it was nice when a skilled fade was a mid-late game juggernaut instead of a 3-5 minute evolution which can turn the tide against the marines. Altogether the new metabolism is useful, the old fade's powerful arsenal and durablity made it more enjoyable class to play.
Onos: Rather than being a necessity for survival, the onos was a game ender. The appearance of an onos usually signified the approaching end to the marine team. The onos was a massive tank capable of withstanding fire from a large group of marines.
Gorge: I really liked having one gorge as well. Although it did cause some problems occasionally, it was nice having the gorge be an important member of the alien team, rather than being a player who will, 5 seconds after completing the hive, chambers, rts, etc., will return to a combat class.
As for the marines, I have to agree with a previous poster, (Niteowl I believe) in that Commanding seems to require a much higer level of concentration now. The advancements to the commadning system are nice, but a slightly slower pace and helpful teammates made a much larger group of players willingly to command.

One thing I do miss is the extra detail in the maps which has had to be cut back because of entity limits.

Well I have to agree that 1.04 was the best build of NS, ever. 3.0 betas are too.. "sterile" and well too "balanced".. hope you get the point. Its all too calculated and blablabla.
But things I liked at 1.04: 1) Slower gameplay! ..Nowdays the game is FAST and everyone knows it.. and most don't like it when the game is desided after 3 mins of play. And when you comm, you need to be a supermultitaskingmegahypercomputer to be able to be everywhere always and do everything in time and be able to THINK what you do and what strategies you want to use. It's the RFK and lowered building costs what make it too fast. And nowdays CO games tend to be longer than NS games and I really think it should be the other way. Slow is better, you have more time to think and observe how the match goes on.
2) Aliens in general.. Aliens were more powerful then, a fade was a horror! People were really scared when the fades showed up! And oh the onos.. onos was the game ender. And the abilities, oh those good old spikes, babblers, 2 hive webs, old blink.. (tho I think old fade should have been: Sweep, blink, ar, bb or was it even so, I recall it was sweep ar blink bb... well) old leap, old charge, old paralyze, old everything.. ...nowdays abilities are nerfed so deep underground that huh.. third hive abilities once meant something! The game end at next 5 mins!
And maps were better in general with the rich detail. Tho bast is an abomination and will always be
And I won't go into "CO with 1.04 rules" (you all know how hard marines would lose every time )
But new bugfixes and such are nice and I just wish those could be combined with the 1.04 stuff... it would be awesome.
