George Lucas is the master of subtlety and symbolism.
I like how he made mention that Anakin had no father, I mean wow, I know I heard that story before but I just can't place it. His mother was such a trooper, giving birth and all without a second thought as to how the heck she got pregnant in the first place. Of course, I guess such occurances are not so far fetched.
But the subtlety and symbolism, how could I forget. For instance, when the jedi convinced that kid to stop smoking "death-sticks". All I could think of was how amazingly similar that was to our current youth smoking problem. He is a genius for calling them death-sticks. Capturing the end result of such an item in such a simple and artistic phrase. The symbolism was so subtle yet not glaring.
Ooh you liked that too Wizard? Wasn't it so cool and hip how George Lucas sold out and put political messages in his movie which have absolutly nothing to do with the plot?
I think I just kind of turned my brain off after that scene, too bad it was so early on I probably missed out on a good movie....oh wait I didn't, ok.
Movies these days are tottaly going down the *******. AvP got a PG-13 rating, CatWoman was garbage, and King-Arthur also got hacked down to a PG-13 rating.
It seems to be a growing trend of movies getting the shaft these days... no matter when they were made, or what movie. This one being Star Wars... which really pisses me off. Why the hell would they add/do such stupid and pointless things?
Obwian and Anikan confront a governer about decieving his people into thinking Ewoks have weapons of mass destruction. Using force powers they make him confess and the people vote Republican Alternative.

If people start complaining about NS, most people's response is "don't play it then". If you don't like the new movies, don't watch them. It's simple. The original trilogy is perfectly fine without these new ones. And i personally like both of them (then again, i liked Reloaded and Revolutions too, so i'm probably in the minority).

Anyone who did not bother to click the link, I recommend listening to this sound clip (mp3 format). It is altered dialogue between the Emperor and Vader in Empire; Vader's lines are unchanged, but the Emperor's lines are RADICALLY different and COMPLETELY alter the scene. This is exactly the kind of crap that's got fans of the original series so up in arms.

The 'death-sticks' scene was a simple representation of the attempts by Lucas to establish pathos with the audience. It was the word 'death-stick' that caused my suspension of disbelief to fly out the window as I was jarred by the real life colloquial and disparaging term for cigarettes.
I would have preferred any term that would have sounded relevant in the Star Wars universe. An attempt at humor would have been depicting Jar-Jar 'discovering' the effects of some street-peddled drug. And a more accurate political message would have been the Jedi helping some alcoholic bum off the streets.
