I'd like to thank pieceofsoap for the time he put into teaching me how to bomb properly on a jet. His Airschool™ is awesome and to prove that he does a good job, i was getting 0 kills before.....

    .....and now:

Hey soap - what server(s) do you play on? I could use some air school as well.

What server do you guys play on? I can't find a decent RANKED server!

you only get points towards unlocks by playing Ranked servers, right?

    That is correct.

This is the Ctrl-Alt-Del's ranked server IP; it's great!
    70.86.19.90

You will have to write that down and enter it manually, BTW.

The fly school helped me too, I dont think they shot me down even once. It's kinda boring tho to keep banking until the other one gives up.

A cool moment was when i flew a heli and attacked the armed anti-air cannon on Gulf of Oman (which is the best open map) dead on. He started to fire but i had used up my flares (hit by a airplane) so I flew up and 2 missiles missed, but those nasty things have 4 missiles so I flew down right after and 1 missed but the last one hit me so I died. Still dodgeing 3 missiles with only flying up and down feels good.

I've also noticed that ALOT of heli gunners doesn't click C when they enter, this give around 40% more view especially downwards.

Can some one please let me know how to aim with ironsight on long distance/running players and on players laying down. I get gunned down by their first 2-3 shots while my crosshair indicates 3-5 hits.

(Side note: The unlocked sniper is totaly FUBAR)

The problem with the helicopter gunner position is that you see the cockpit again after you switch back from guided missile mode. It's also very disorienting to fly in that kind of position without any bearings on the direction of the vehicle you're in, and the minimap graphic usually isn't enough for me. I end up switching between cockpit, no cockpit and missile mode constantly.

There are a couple servers I am almost frequent on, but not having a favorites list, or any kind of friends list is a problem. Really, the best thing to do is just meet me on IRC at #NSBF2, Im usually around.

making cockpit disabled the default should be an option in the settings I mean, it's cute that they wanted to draw it and all, but surely they must know that it makes flying 5 times harder... it should be off by default and you can turn it on if you want some extra atmosphere...

Quoted for truth, took the M95 as my first unlock, the gun doesnt even kill with a round in someones back its that bad.

Though i have managed to kill a cobra pilot with it

As for bombing the SU-34 is a poor mans bomber, just a carpet bomber the other jets that drop 2 bombs require alot more precision to hit your target.

You get your first unlock at lance corp i think, thats when i got mine.

I have to disagree i love having the cockpit on when flying a jet only time i turn it off is when im a gunner in a helicopter. Dont get me wrong im not the best pilot but i feel the cockpit gives me a better idea of where the ground is....doesn't make much sense i know.

But yer best friend a helicopter pilot can have is a gunner that knows to turn off the cockpit and knows how to use the dammed TV missle, so many people just fire it and let it go....

Thanks for the air tips 2 pages back guys.

    More questions:

I knew that the horizontal bar is the artificial horizon, but I thought the vertical bar was some sight liner uper thing, since it only appears when you're in bombing mode. Thanks for correcting this mistake. I'll just practise practise practise till I get the feel for bombs again.

When someone is on you, how do you get them off? It seems like I can never, ever shake anyone on my six. And people seem to be able to shake me all the time. I'll be tailing and yet they somehow outmaneuver me.

What about speed? I find that frequently - especially if I'm chasing a bomber - I end up flying faster than them, and I have to bank off and do like a loop or something so I don't pass them, and end up losing em. Do you guys throttle down (to maybe 90% or something) when chasing someone?

I googled the immelman turn, and appeartly I've been doing it for quite some time already. I've found it quite ineffective for dodging though, I mostly use it to quickly turn around when refilling bombs/missles at an airfield. I googled the Split S but I guess I just don't get it. Do other real world air tactics translate over to the game well-ish?

Lastly, how the heck do you shoot down helicopters? Since they're usingly going so slow, if not stopped completely, and your jet is so fast, and the drawing distance is so short (even w/ the slider on max), I end up passing the helicopter before I can ever get a missle lock. Any tips for this?

    Thanks guys. :D

Excellent tip on the switch-to-bombs thing. I'll try that next time. :D

On a side note: Of course I'm using a joystick. I get so sick of hearing that every time I ask for advice. :X

To take down a chopper, the best thing is, in IMO, this order:

    1) Tanks- If you have a steady aim, and know how to account for speed, just lead them properly, adjust for distance, and let that main cannon do the job for you. Then finish with a combo of serial machine gun+gunner turret firepower

    2) APC / Anti-tank Kit- just guide that missile into it Easy enough in practice, BUT that sets off their missile alarm. Just be careful, shoot over or under, and guide it down or up at the last second. Finish em with MG fire

    3) Mobile AA- Watch out for tanks, and stay hidden. Do NOT take aim till they are facing away from you, or else yer gonna get a rocket up yer tailpipe. Shoot thru smoke if you must to avoid being seen.

    4) Ground based turrets- this sets off their missile alarm, and they're ease to dodge. They are also easy to rocket or MG down.

    5) Helicopters- a gunship is a good way to take out an enemy chopper... IF you have a way to keep enemy guns away from you, have a keen eye, and a steady aim. Those rockets are unguided... and easy to dodge.

    6) Fighters- fast, manuverable... and noticeable. Plus, their missiles will set off the alarm in a chopper, making them jink and, if they are smart, hit the deck and REVERSE. You WILL overshoot.

i find it easy enough to just get the anti tank kit and hit them while they are hovering over a base.

Tips for dogfighting, in no particular order:

-Use your afterburners (these are the same button as sprint, default shift I believe), these allow you to turn much sharper then normal if used right.

-Your planes machine guns do ALOT of damage, do not underestimate them. A good bet is to keep your bombs selected then just unload on them with your guns. That way they don't get a lock warning.

-If you are a missile person, and your opponent trys to shake you, switch to your bombs and try and keep up. After the missle lock goes away long enough they will assume they lost you. Once they start on a straight course try and lock em again.

-Missles are best at long range, try and drop a bit behind your enemy before firing. That way your missles have a longer amount of time to begin compensating for any turns your enemy makes to shake em.

-When another player is chasing you, don't drop your countermeasures as soon as you get a missle lock, try shaking him first, save your measures only as a last resort.

-When shaking another player, a good trick is to turn straight up and sharply to one side. This causes most missles to overshoot since their turning radiuses are to wide. Throw on the afterburners to cut into the turn faster if needed.

When shooting down a helicopter, here are a few tips.

-Slow down when you see the helicopter. You can let up on acceleration all the way if you wish.

-Don't waste your time with missles, it just gives them a much earlier warning and doesn't do enough damage.

-Have your bombs selected and let loose on them with your machine gun, try and aim for the glass of the cockpit or up near the propellar, they seem to take a bit more damage like this.

-a good 2-3 seconds of continued machine gun fire is enough to destroy almost any helicopter. The only problem is that for them to be in your crosshairs that long, you usually need to be going pretty slow. To stop from crashing into the ground from loss of velocity it is good to throw on the afterburners the second the helicopter catches fire, not neccessarily explodes. If the planes nose starts to dip, don't immiediatly pull up. Power into the dip to regain flight velocity easier.

That's about all I can think of for now..

Played a bit tonight since the new patch came out.

The sniper rifle is now completely usable! HOORAY! :D

I also used some of the tips in this thread and finally became a bringer of aeiral destruction via attack helicopter. >:D

Didn't get to try any planes though. I did some single player practicing and finally got to where I can shake the Veteran skilled AI in a jet. No big accomplishment I know, but its an improvement. Tommorrow I will test on humans.

Sounds like something wrong on YOUR computer. I'm having no problem filtering for anything, now. Try reinstalling or, if you're desperate enough, reformatting.
