What propaganda boost? Seems to me they received equal amounts of publicity.

Edit: Never mind, I know what you're talking about now.

I totally missed it as well, but the soldier effectively got 35K free kills.

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->The 18th century was a time of rapid innovation; in the space of a single year, the two-storey building, the stage play, America, and the rocket launcher were all invented by the same man: Shakespearicles, the strongest writer who ever lived. Despite his powerful grasp of language and the ability to bench press 700 British pounds, several inventions eluded his iron grip—most tragically among them, stairs. For the next three hundred years, people who needed to get to the second floor used the only method available to them: shooting a rocket launcher at their feet. Yes, it was ridiculous, crippling, and awful, but what are you going to do? Not go to the second floor?

    That’s where your bed is.

Luckily, in 1857, a young bearded inventor named President Abraham Lincoln stumbled upon the answer: stairs. Unluckily, he never grasped the full import of his own invention, and died attempting to rocket jump up the world’s first staircase in his laboratory at Ford’s Theater. Horrified by this tragedy, mankind agreed never to invent anything again, turning its many scientists and scholars to that most noble endeavor, astrology.

It would not be until 1921 when hotheaded Pisces Franklin D Roosevelt, languishing in a hospital after losing both of his legs in a rocket-jumping accident, stumbled upon Lincoln’s notes and perfected the modern staircase, freeing people from the tyranny of the second floor as Lincoln intended.

No advancement has been made in the escalation sciences since… until now. Introducing the Gunboats, secondary-slot boots that reduce rocket jump damage by a huge amount, rendering stairs forever useless. What is the science behind these miracles of technology? Magic, probably.

In conclusion, why are you still reading this? These things are live, in the game, right now. Go go go!<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Great, now we will have soldiers, EVERYWHERE, ALL THE TIME. Ugh.

I mean it by the very definition of the word. When most soldiers has gotten their hands on the rocketjump boots they will occupy every single inch of the elevation on and above ground. And to counter the other team will get soldiers with the precision bazooka just to minicrit them out of the sky. So unless the new demo launcher can attach proximity mines on strings on the skybox, it will probably be very one sided.

    from the update:

    Scout:
    # The Sandman now only stuns on a max range hit (when you hear the cheering)
    # All shorter hits now force the enemy into the thirdperson fleeing state (also removed the damage reduction on them)

hrmmmm probably for the best really... but still. HRMmmmmm.

WHAT?! Do they still have the HP penalty on the sandman? Why not just MURDER ALL SCOUTS EVERYWHERE while you're at it. >:(

Why not just let the soldier and demoman handle that? They can both run faster than the scout now.

At least our invincibility thingy comes with a hefty disadvantage that makes it almost useless. Meanwhile, a certain other class gets a watch that gives invinci- AND invisbility without a stationary windup period or a massive movement penalty. Go hate on that class instead, those ######s deserve it more.

Yeah and that guy who always peeks around a corner and can shoot you from miles away, the coward! Not to mention the dude that hides behind all the machinery or the guy that makes everything burn with just two button and the dude that uses others to get lots of kills with his anti hp machine or the big bald guy that stands on a point and shoots expensive bullets and even kills you with those bullets.

    Damn them all :D

Most people do hate the anticlass of the current class they play. And everyone hates pyro's... So yeah, there ya have it. I guess people need something to whine about and whining about the current event is the cool thing to do :)

So, I randomly got the the Scottish Resistance.

It is horribly OP, and an interesting mechanic.

The Mechanic (for those that haven't gotten it) is that any stickies within about 2inches of your xhair will detonate when your right click. It doesn't matter how near/far or if you can see them or not they will go boom.

On a map point with relatively limited access (or predictable players) you can easily cover all spots AND leave some on the CP/Flag. Simply look where the bad guys are and they blow up, it really is all kinds of OP. It is however, almost 100% useless for assaults. The longer arming time, the inability to sticky jump (you have to be looking AT it to detonate it), etc etc.

the flip side is I have watched some one with the eyelander/targe doing wonderful things on assault. First time I saw some one use it effectively I instantly had the "WTFHAX!" thought. Guy would use it to charge a CP, using cover and what not to get himself through the enemy line really fast.

Once I nab the eyelander/targe I think I might be playing demo a lot.

The flip side is that I only have the equalizer so far, and it sucks.

Targe thingy + bottle = charge with guaranteed crit at the end for no real drawback. It's kind of iffy. At least the sword drains your health before letting you run faster than a scout.

Do tell, it sounded kind of like a straight upgrade. Especially with the running faster, so you can retreat.

It is better, assuming you are ok running around at low HP.

Really it comes down to the fact that if you get in a fight, end up at low HP and decide to whip out the melee, you should be a dead man. If you are running around at low HP with this thing out you are going to get hit by a stray shot and bite it.

Also, medics not being able to heal you when it is out kinda sucks.

That all being said, I still am using it. Basically the only time I whip it out is when I am at low health, can't get to a med pack, and see an enemy or 3 that don't suspect I am there. I'm still going to die, but I should get at least one kill, and possibly an achievement (so I can get the other toys).

Also, it is awesome for the taunt kill aspect...

It IS better. What does the shovel do that the pickaxe doesn't? In any situation you care to think of it will perform as good or better than the shovel, so why ever use the shovel again? What is the drawback? That medics can't heal you while you hold it? Big deal, if there's a medic with you you'll want to opt for a fighting retreat rather than a suicidal charge anyway.

Pyro totally crushes demomen without a sticky launcher, they can barely hit you with grenade launcher, especially if you reflect one or two and any charge attempted is lighted up gently, fwoosched away and critaxed in the face.

Pickaxe essentially tells you "the soldier is on low hp, just shotgun him down at range" but I've seen a few managing to run away with their lives intact after whipping it up.

I love the new rocket launcher. It makes all pain a lot more fair, he actually 'hit' me. Sadly reflecting it is a lot harder and it rarely hits anyone.

Heavies with natasha is having a field day, it completely neutralizes the charge of a demo, must be a bug.
  • lolfighterlolfighter Snark, Dire Join Date: 2003-04-20 Member: 15693Members
Why would that be a bug? Sounds like intended behaviour to me.
  • SvenpaSvenpa Wait, what? Join Date: 2004-01-03 Member: 25012Members, Constellation
It should slow him down, not neutralize his charge and his end-charge crit. It is as if the demo aborted it with a swing.
