<div class="IPBDescription">Just the things you liked..</div> I know I know, bunny hopping, jetpack rushes, bla bla bla. I'm here to hear the things you liked about NS 1.04 and earlier. I just watched the old trailer again, and I was abosolutly wowed by it.
Things I liked were
The one gorge builder. Thats the way it should be.
The larger alien structures. It actually looked a lot...well quite frankly, <i>less cute.</i>
The hive importance. Even though that when the aliens got to hive 2, and the marines didnt have 3/3 HA with HMGS to fight off the fades, this put a lot more action on the game.
THE FADES. They were fantastic, with the acid rocket, and actually scary. Now they're just kinda...playtoys. Dont give me "you have to be good" stuff, they just are scary. Its like a cross between Jesus's messenger and barney flying through the skys and he wants to hug you.

1.04 Lerk was the best. Great for both support and combat. Bite, spikes, umbra spores. I think this should have never changed, even if we lost primal entirely. Now that umbra isn't unstoppable, I think this lerk could be revisited. <!--emo&::lerk::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/lerk.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='lerk.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I remember people always said with fades and lerks, the next level for leetness was meleeing, using lerk bite and fade swipe rather than acid and spikes
Oh yeah, and admins actually BANNING people for going early lerk/gorge...The overflow was killed.
-Old Blink(I don't miss 1 hive acid rockets, but the new blink is just so stupid)
-Being able to take upgrades as a skulk without hurting res
oh ya i loved when the other team blamed there loss on ther only gorge lol
and the flying of the lerk was funny

It made commanding alot more difficult keeping hives down, but the harder the battle the sweeter the victory with plenty of "WTH"s and "omg"s abound.

Also: LASER TRIP MINES PLZ. The addition of being able to make ladders out of mines is a nice touch, but nobody plans for it except really devious marine teams with excellent coordination and planning. Agora has a secret weld point which a pack of five mines will get you up to, for instance. But implausable mine ladders aside, the lasers made the mines really shine. ... no pun intended.
Do mines still blow up if you shoot at them with friendly fire on??</span>
yeah it really scared the life out of you to think that if you didnt capture a hive in the first 5 or so mins of the game then the chances of you winning were close to 0, although it was great when one comm actually managed it, 8 play ha train, no losses <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Less competition for kills on the alien team (since kills=res Kinda supports the theory of the strong get stronger while the weak get weaker)

I don't remember much else that I liked... NS 1.0x was good at first, but then the same strats again and again just ruined it... except it was always good to beat the JP/HMG rush.

I miss the one gorge, God that was the good stuff a good gorge was the way its suppose to be the Gorge's tatics vs the Comms tatics. People actually protected him it was like "you and him go with gorge to vent and protect him while he puts up hive" not like now wheres its like "can we get a gorge to put a hive up in vent?" and they dont even clear it... sigh
I miss fade actually being scary. When fades came you were like "OH SHIET!!! DA FADE DEY GOT DA FADE GET SOME PEOPLE HERE NOW!!" I miss the fact that 1.4 <!--emo&::onos::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tiny.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tiny.gif' /><!--endemo--> meant something... none of this 8 min crap where you had people rushing it. You never even thought about onos till you were either winning or you were playing a really long game
Oh yeah I miss gorges ability to get webbing sooner I mean why is it a 3 hive ability its so damn useful for protecting you from JPers and basically anything.

P.S whats with this maxiumum number of emoticon thingy thats just silly.
OMG it took me like a month to learn how to use that blink properly but it was the BEST EFFING ABILITY EVER. I LOVED THAT ABILITY. i remember blinking behind marines and they were like WTH where'd that thing go and then i'd claw them in the back. oh man. that blink was the best. i can't even begin to describe.

but i loved the lerkness of jumpyness.. it was like wooooooh cant shoot the lerk its to fast for ya. aliens were scary.
1. lerks were super fast and unpredictable
2. Fades were the spawn of hell
3. gorges allways had backup (rarly see a groge on his own in 1.4)
BUT WHAT I MISS THE MOST IS THE MINES

I think these are what made NS fun back then. Works for me.
-lerk weapon setup (new flight pwnz j00 tho)

-the generous amount of detail in the maps. (double door in caged, that door in shipping in caged, tanith doors, all of old hera)

-onos being powerful
-the 'look' of old blink. There seriously needs to be a compromise between the utility of new blink, and the 1337er looking old one

-Less maps in general. Sounds pretty awkward, but then we actually had a reasonable amount of time to learn a map. That and I actually could remember all the locations, location names.

Ah, I forgot... the lerk umlimited speed. I love the new flight model though... Now I can bite things in air!
