it depends what you want. if you want the horizontal speed boost from a sticky jump then you don't lose much health but it's not worth the 2-3 seconds shaved off your travel time.

and doing a vertical jump to get higher ground for a demoman is just dumb.

I dono, traveling most of the map in Well in 1 jump seems like a good speed boost to me, but I dono, I can't do those jumps.

Enough demoman talk, let's talk scouts! Best class or bestest class? That is, on about three maps, on servers that are typically <20 people, without engineers ruining your fun.

Scouts are the hardest class to use in my opinion. You move so fast that if you walk around a corner with a sentry you are dead meat with no way of recovering.

On the other hand, when they are no sentries around and big open spaces you are right-dandy. Only thing you have to worry about at that point really are ground-shooting soldiers. Aside from them, you're fine.

Scouts are bloody awesome on gravelpit.
Damn that map is my favoritest ever, with its great rocketjump spots, having to act quickly to defend both points, scoutability oloz and yeah.

bah, how do so many people have much higher Max Points and Max Kills than I do =p I regularly finish rounds with 2 times or 3 times the next best person's score... I'm not saying this to brag, I'm just amazed because that means some of you probably end rounds with like 100 points when the next best person has 10 points... the stats they choose to make prominent don't make much sense though IMO. score per minute would be the best stat to show and it's not visible. if you wanted to be really careful, you could probably get as many kills in a life as you want, or stay alive as long as you want, etc. but you wouldn't be doing as much for your team as you could...

Scouts soldiers and demos in that order are my favorite. I feel like if you played them right you could take on almost any class(except I can never seem to hit pyros as a soldier, must be a mental thing).

Since I started playing TF2, I've basically only played the Scout. The other classes feel too slow after prolonged Scout use. I also like to go for the objectives and win as quickly as possible which (normally) makes the Scout ideal. I find it really boring to camp a choke/flag or just frag here and there. 30 second wins ftw!
  • CrispyCrispy Jaded GD Join Date: 2004-08-22 Member: 30793Members, Constellation
Scout has a relatively low lifespan, though, so you could be spending less time waiting to respawn with another class like, say, the Soldier.

play it deathmatch style (i.e. count down medpack respawns) and you can live forever!

on that map with the trainyard (i'm going to look like a right ass if it actually <b>is</b> called trainyard) you get 1 large and 2 small meds at the mid cap point. i've played defense on that map before as scout and held the point for ages. his speed and general short range of tf2 weapons means you can just zoom on out of combat to heal up. worth it with some crazy high respawn times, imo.

i think the only class with a low lifespan that you can't really improve is the pyro. chances are to get in range to flame someone you put yourself in a crap position that gets a billion rockets and nades fired at you. i mean, im looking at my <a href="http://steamcommunity.com/id/sherpa/stats/TF2" target="_blank">stats</a> and my pyro score is way below my other scores, even though i've spent a lot of time as pyro.

Whenever I see a Scout in Well's trainyard section I just shoot rockets at the meds. I know what you mean, though, barely anyone uses the meds in that room and it doesn't take much to get a Scout back up to full health again.

Yeah, I was kind of baffled myself <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/nerd-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::nerdy::" border="0" alt="nerd-fix.gif" /> Somehow it worked perfectly with my aim, when I shot where they stood a split second ago, I hit, especially with scout (didn't bother with sniper tho <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />). Zombie and I were medic in turns when it became rough to advance, good to have a partner you can count on giving uber and such. Crispy and I had this mad round in Dustbowl 3, he healed me while I was on a roll and got a crit on every 1/3 sticky bomb, probably killed 15 people in a single attack <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" /> (also got new damage record for demo the same round, 5630). Haven't played on US servers before, mostly EU with Crispy who tend to catch on fire a bit often.

Edit: Fixed name confusion + screenshot of said round.
