Wow, don't hate on games that were cool to be cool.

I don't know who said Red Faction was bad cuz it was really cool. I mean you could BLOW AWAY FREAKIN WALLS! Yeah you can do that in other games but nothing like what you could do in this game. YOU COULD FREAKIN EXCAVATE A TUNNEL AND MAKE YOUR OWN PATH!!! How is that not cool!

As for games I disliked, I thing one that comes to mind was, America. It was this RTS game that basically took place in America during Western times. It was really bad, soo many bugs and to play multiplayer, you had to hack the game.

Also a couple other games I can't think of.

Jim, the problem I had with Red Faction was because it was not every wall that could be destroyed. Only certain walls could be broken. That's nothing better than the Bazooka class in Day of Defeat. The feature, which I was expecting to be great, ended up feeling like a gimmick.

Im going to show my age here, but the ending of Solaris on the Atari 2600 was a big let down....

Im not going to spoil it for the young uns though, its just I expected a little bit more after spending too long trying to beat the game.

Well... this isn't quite the direction I'd wanted this thread to go but hey, the customer is always right I guess. *shrug*

    And so i join in

Deus Ex 2, its a good game, plenty of worse ones... such a let down as I think we all pretty much agree, I don't mind a game being made with a more efficient interface, getting rid of unnecessary complications etc but they just castrated it instead!

BG2 was amazing, NWN... yawn. Played through the whole of BG series with the same character, probably completed it about 4/5 times and I'm pretty sure I found everything there was to find. NWN just didn't capture my interest at all, I have no idea why, just no atmosphere.

I totally agree about Red Faction, the Geomod should have completely changed how FPS's were made, everything should have been fully deformable, new tactics, new weapons... everything! Instead you got walls with little 'shoot me' signs on. What a waste.

Diablo 2 although completely my fault. I think I got my Hardcore paladin up to lvl53 and died after I thought I'd killed everything on the screen. I had almost zero life left but didn't want to use a potion as I'd planned to warp into town straight away... but first I thought I'd see what I looked like in the new armour I'd picked up, and then in my old again, then in the new, old, new, old, new, then in no armour just for comparison... and then one of those desert wormy things hatched out of an egg which I somehow hadn't seen and killed me!

I lost all interest after that... my fault for being such an idiot.

B&W, fun game, should have been the god of all games instead of another god game. I loved playing around though, throwing stuff about, collecting sheep etc. Most annoying thing for me was I spent hours reading up on how to be good, I was kind, gentle, my villagers loved me. I was the perfect example of a God... except my creature refused to take my lead and was 100% evil... nothing I can do. Tried three times to make a good creature and all he'd do is eat people!

I wouldn't mind so much except my brother kept trying to make his creature as 'cool' as mine and kept complaining when all it wanted to do was water the crops and dance!

Mine only ever danced once... and in the process smashed 3 houses! Eventually my creature corrupted me and I found that yes, evil is fun. I used to get every villager to breed and then sacrafice almost every newborn boy to myself, I'd get loads of prayer power from that which more than made up for a lack of villager run resources. I got really good at catching and juggling fireballs too, used to mix them all together for massive fireballs then hurl them at enemy villages.

I thought Black and White was pretty damn fun. Except it's one of the very few games I played and didn't finish. I just got sick of being pelted with fireballs in whatever that level was. My monkey was awesome, he could cast fireball increase and storm increase. I hate trainer maps by the way.

Halo was... decent. It was fun. It had Style. Pity that you had to walk though the same goddamned rooms a zillion times over. It's a good thing those zombies were so much fun to blow apart with the shotgun.

Yeah I found that a little odd. Surely if you hated the first games, you wouldn't play the last games (just common sense). How many hours would they have wasted on a series they hated?

    (note: using to Japanese numbering)
At first I'd only played Final Fantasy, FF Mystic Quest, and FF Legends 1-3. I liked those games for the most part. So I decided to check out some more of the series: FF Adventures, FFII, and FFVIII. They sucked. So I gave up on that series for a while and didn't play any of the others... up until about 2 years ago.

My friends don't undertand why I'm angry at FF. The blame it on the fact that I haven't played the "good ones". They have a good point... I haven't. They tell me how FFVI and FFVII will make me love it again. So to step out of ignorance I play them. They suck. I hear FFIX came out recently and fixed evertyhing. I try it and it's decent... but not very fun.

So I'm again angry at FF, but people say it's not fair to complain about the ones I haven't played. True. So I play them. Finally... FF Tactics I played as a carry over from Tactics Ogre and Crystal Chronicals I've played 3 or 4 times at parties.

Now I have arguments against them... I hate most of that series I and can back it up with research. Wanna blindly argue that the ones YOU haven't played are good? Cool... open your mouth and remove all doubt of your ignorance.

PS: I'm a game programmer... I don't play games JUST to play them. I play them to learn how to make them (not suck). You've only wasted hours on the FF series if you LIKED it.

LoZ: Windwaker was pretty cool, up until the FIND ALL OF TEH TRIFORCE PIECARS! And then beating 'Ganon' after beating puppet ganon was the easiest boss I have ever played. I told my friends the controls and they hadn't played the game once and beat him on the first try. And then the ending of LoZ: Majora's Mask had you fight the mask and if you actually tried to get some good stuff (the ever-lasting magic milk drink, and the mask that turns you into some big older Link person thingy) you could beat him in a few seconds.

It wasn't a gimmick because this is technically the first someone has ever really done something at this level. Of course not all walls could be destroyed! But a majority of them could and thats what matters. Usually you couldn't shoot through some walls because they were a thick steel but I think the game would suck if you could shoot through everything...

I wouldn't go that far, but it was certainly limited. Stuff like blowing up a bridge to drop an APC into a chasm was great fun, but the game just didn't capitalise on the feature throughout.

You obviously really didn't play the game then because the practice level was basically a big room with a rocket launcher, and ceiling wasn't the limit... I seriously spent hours making tunnels all around the map, I even made my own stairs to the top of the ceiling(which was really high). It was really fun, RF2 was a big let down though because of no multiplayer support Overall I enjoyed the game. Yes they could have done more with the exploding walls but it was a really good first start that I hope new games will incorporate into their games.

Thats the point Jim, the practice level was great fun, digging tunnels etc (reached the limit for deforming, took ages). However the ability to destroy terrain should have opened up so many opportunities and it just didn't. It was just another FPS which you would have to complete the same was as all the others. I really hoped there would be some great mods out for it but I haven't heard about any.

When I first heard about the manipulator in HL2 I had this sinking feeling it would end up a gimmick where you used it for certain sections and thats it. Thankfully it does seem to fulfil its potential so far... we'll have to see though.

Yeah, the thing about Red Faction was I thought that the makers of the game expected you to be a lot more intellectual than the average player. For example, finding a creative way around an obstacle... I once was trying to get onto this drilling machine, so I destroyed a nearby pillar and made a staircase out of it, so I could just on top (where the access hatch was). I then realized that Use was mapped to Enter, not E, so I pressed Enter when I was on top of the machine and got in.
Later, I died and went back to the save, and I realized you could get in by just standing next to the machine and pressing Enter. So all the work was for nothing

Also, in the section where you get to fly around in the plane, I was trying to drop the stalagmites on top of soldiers on the ground... it didn't work

Although in terms of being a shooter, Red Faction was a very cool game, especially with the vehicles you could use. Just the destructible terrain wasn't good enough.

Another game that was a letdown for me was Command and Conquer Tiberium (edit) Dawn, Gold Edition. This was when they re-released C&C with Red-Alert quality graphics. I thought they would at least put in a "skirmish" mode where you could fight against the computer in a multiplayer-style game... nope!
They didn't even fix any bugs. All they did was port the artwork over from Red Alert (all the build icons were taken from Red Alert minus a few), change the price of the bazooka soldier to $300, and make the graphics higher-res. That was IT. I felt so supremely cheated.
That's why I think the original C&C should be re-released with the RA2 or Generals engine... with no balance changes, nothing... just better graphics and more gameplay options.
