Well, managed to get the GSX back. The rebuild cost way too much, but I figured that I might as well replace the bearings and rings while it was open. After all, the heat that warped the head probably screwed them too, and I don't want my bottom end dropping out a month later.
Have to head in (actually should already be there) to have the turbo oil feed line replaced, as it's leaking now.. but I'm covered for all engine work for a year.
Gonna baby it for the first 800, then let it loose, see how hard it'll pull at 6800rpm once the new bits have had a chance to settle in.

On another note, be careful with that 944. It's a stone PAIN to get new engines for them... they tend to be worth more than the car. Or at least cost more... and two of the ones that've rolled through Harvey's place had cracked blocks. Other bits he has laying around are three or four 968s, a couple 944s, and one 911 Turbo. Also has an apparently very limited run drop top, but I'm not sure which model it is... he's rebuilding it for himself, apparently it was the victim of an engine fire.

Oh, and I get to work on a second gen RX-7 turbo tomorrow. Brake job, but I'll get to watch him replacing the apex seal. ^_^

Yeah it's always wise to do the bottom end it you're doing the top. I also heard the 944's were high maintenance. But Chrono either has or is going to unload it for another MR2, so he sayeth...

Actually, I got a chance to drive a supercharged MR2, as well as a couple of the Porsches at the shop. All in all, the SC MR2 is MUCH more nimble, and accellerates quite a bit quicker than even the 944 turbo. Not as comfortable a ride, but the tradeoff is well worth it, IMO.

If it were a choice, I'd go with the MR2 and stiffen up the front to reduce the likelihood of oversteer. Porsches are money-pits, from what I've seen over and over.

Nifty! Sounds like it'll be a lot of fun, Chrono. Just make sure you do all the standard maint stuff (t-belt, water pump, oil change, plugs + wires) and if you're mechanically inclined, might want to pull the head, just to give the internals a good eyeballing. If it's seen track time, it's quite possible that the cams saw too much overlap, and might be slightly bent.

Heh. Had a chance to put the Eclipse up against a customer 944 Turbo, Chevy Nova SS with a 454 dropped in, and a couple of tweaked 240SXes. The Nova could walk me a bit on the straights, but other than that... may have just been the drivers, but none of them could get away or keep up on the Crest.

If he's selling off a 700hp Evo for a Skyline, I've got a Mirage to sell him instead. He's most likely a rice-headed moron.

First, it's INCREDIBLY difficult to handle 700hp. Most people don't understand that it isn't a linear increase in control difficulty (and most don't even realize how hard it is to control a 200hp car).. it's a geometric increase in difficulty.

Plus, with the amount of money he must have dumped into that Evo, I highly doubt he'd want to ever sell it, barring severe mechanical issues, if he actually had what he says he does..

We're referring to a car here, Cyndane, NOT girly wear. Must you compare apples to oranges? *rollseyes*

Of course, you'll say "yes", so to that rebuttal I would reply, "the little black dress is only so popular because it's sexy, and black is sexy". So Crono should go for black not only because it's manly, but because it's sexy.

====================================================

If you're into ultra-high maintenance, go with the white, as it's guaranteed you'll have to wash it twice as often as any other color if you want it to look good. Also, if you're going for aftermarket rims anytime soon, no body color sets them off better than black.

Of course, there is one exception. If you wish to forego style for practicality, a lighter colored car such as white would suit you much better IF you live in a hotter climate, such as the deep south, and leave your vehicle exposed to the hot sun frequently. If this is the case, a white car would stay relatively cooler inside than a black one.

Something to consider before having the car done is how good the body work under the paint is at the moment and how much you're willing to spend on having it done. A black car will show every imperfection in the body work underneath and so will cost a lot more in labour to do properly than white will, as white shows them the least of all colours (or shades, whatever). For example, a black MGB I recently helped prep took 2 weeks of work while a Porsche 912, which was in a slightly worse condition and is being painted in white has taken 4 days so far, needing just one more day to finish before painting. When done, both will look on a par for quality.

That said I'd choose black everytime.
