Maybe the new engine will let them put the APC back in that one map with the parking garage and the sewer that's set in the mountains... Which one was that...
Also, de_survivor should look awesome now, even if it still sucks as a map.

Well, if you want to ride a barrel all you have to do is run backwards whilst standing on it. The faster you run, the faster you go, but if it goes faster than you can run or you run into something you fall off.

I want to see someone make a mod that adds Thief3/Riddick-style body-awareness to standard HL, CS, or whatever. Basically, have the player view the game through a camera attached to a real model in the game. Source has the camera support already, so there's no reason it shouldn't be possible. But it would probably make barrel-riding (or at least barrel-standing-on) possible, however briefly. ^^

God, this game is beautiful. As has been said before, the subtlety of the effects make this look so much better than doom3 and farcry. I love the ragdoll effects in the above image, making the one terrorist corpse on the left sit up.

That shot is actually very... well, unsettling. It's so real that I see it and frankly sort of feel the humanity of 3 dead guys lying in a nameless, pointless hallway somewhere.
Never thought I'd say something that deep about CS. But if *CS* can do that, imagine a mod that really tried to make you feel that life was sacred? eee.

Just wondering cause I have scores of SS of borked ragdoll pics that I have taken from both Farcry and Doom 3 and I was hoping HL2 would be a little cleaner in that respect...
I think the only game I've played that doesn't have broken ragdolls was Painkiller, which uses Havok 2 (iirc). Doesn't HL2 use an enhanced Havok engine? If so, it's possible the ragdolls will be fine.

There usually is quite a bit of blood in the game, I'm surprised that shot doesn't have any. Not enough blood to not make sense, but just enough to let you know.
Actually, thats one thing I hope HL2 does better eventually, is blood+ragdolls. DOOM 3 did a GREAT job with its blood effects, and sure, they help the experience, but I'd just like to see source have it.
And Swiftspear, so far, I have only seen 1 broken ragdoll- a CT hanging from his hand in the wall. But this is after at least 100 games, so its not very common. Almost always, the ragdolls are sickly realistic- I remember one once of a CT sitting on a box, who got shot, and he fell back and slid down off of th box slowly(as if that was REAL texture creating friction), with his head propping up the rest of his body that lay against the box, gun aside him, and blood above him on the wall next to it. Quite a scene.

This happened to me in one game. i saw broken ragdoll in painkiller before, actually alot... i had the cheat to keep bodys in and i kept shooting the bodies with the spike shooter and the limbs started going nuts and all over the place
I bought a radeon 9800 not too long ago, and valve says you need a voucher for hl2 since just recently. Good thing i didnt get one with my brand new 9800 *crys* :/ I will forever be mad at valve for this.
I just saw a video of the flashbang effect, and I don't know what's so special about it; it's identical to the effect in Raven Shield. Also, I have noticed that the shotgun animations are still crap, and the outdoor parts of de_aztec look like crap (the grass textures don't look as good as Halo's). Also, I am a bit disappointed the ejector ports are still configured for a lefty (what is the dev left-handed?) and all there seems to only be one model for each side. Ah, well... I have no right to complain, I'm not going to be playing CS:S anyways.
Right now CS:S is the worst game that I have ever played. Due to I can't play it because one. The thing never preloaded the 400 megs on my pc, but only preloaded 20 megs and says its 100%. Tried deleting it reinstalling but still doesnt work. I hope Valve fixes this soon, but doesnt really matter cause
Through some odd bit of fuding w/ server files & config files I got CS:S working. woot.
I must say, it is very, very beautiful. I now have no doubt whatsoever that HL2 is going to be multiplayer king for a few years. Hell it could potentially reign longer than HL1 has. Very, very sexy graphics.
The ragdoll death animations are especially nice. In fact, this is the first game I've ever played where I can honestly say I'm *GLAD* they put in ragdoll deaths, because for the first time they actually look better than traditional pre-defined animations. This is the first game I've seen to actually make the ragdoll physics look natural...
You wouldn't think it, but all the litter around the map really changes the experience. When a nade goes off and causes a glass bottle to fly by your head, its really neat. Its a client side only effect, so there's absolutely no lag whatsoever, which is another big bonus. And when one of the bombs go off, it affects the area as if a bomb actually went off (almost). Barrels fly everywhere, etc. Quite nice.
Perhaps some of the nicest physics displays I've seen has got to be when a guy got killed w/ a shottie, so he was flying backwards, and a nade to his right went off while he was in the air, so it of course it flew him in the opposite direction. Looked very cool.
The blood is awesome too. Second only to DOOM3 in blood effects. Some servers seem to have it turned off though.
At the end of the day though, it is still CS. But I honestly think that w/ the enhancements to the engine it actually makes the game a little fun. It definately makes it less frustrating, because now whenever you die instead of getting **** and cursing you are just awed by how amazingly realistic your corpse looks as it tumbles over.
Their community is still full of ****heads though. Out of two servers I joined, I was routinely called every ethnic deragatory term there is and told that my mother has a preference for various shaped objects. Also that apprently my dog has poor dental hygine.

Well, the hulls with this so far seem VERY well done. I think its more of the models moving so quickly that just a piece will go through a wall.
*edit* And if someone can point me in the direction of the place where screenshots are held...D:
Just wondering cause I have scores of SS of borked ragdoll pics that I have taken from both Farcry and Doom 3 and I was hoping HL2 would be a little cleaner in that respect... <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
Sometimes you get the "feet in floor" thing but not *too* often.
I got shot and fell forward and kinda slid off the wall whilst thinking "Hell yeah" @ the ragdoll effect....then it just got stuck <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
It was where the gun touched my foot, and my foot just stuck there.
